Do I still need to see a dentist?
Dental hygienists can provide oral assessments, radiographs (x-rays), and dental hygiene therapy (cleaning). If a concern is identified that requires a dentist’s care, a referral can be made.
Some clients choose to receive all of their care at Grinn Dental Hygiene, while others continue seeing their dentist for exams and any treatment that is diagnosed. Care can be coordinated based on your preferences and needs.
Can I come just for a cleaning?
Yes. You may choose to attend for your dental hygiene care while continuing with your dentist for exams, radiographs and other treatment.
What services can a dental hygienist provide?
Registered Dental Hygienists in Alberta can provide dental hygiene assessments, scaling and polishing (cleaning), radiographs (x-rays), and other preventive care.
Services are based on individual needs and scope of practice.
What if something is found during my appointment?
If additional care is needed, you will be informed and a referral to a dentist can be arranged. Collaboration with other dental professionals helps support continuity of care.

What can I expect at my first appointment?
Your appointment will include a review of your medical and dental history, an assessment of your oral health, intraoral photos and hygiene therapy (cleaning). It may also include radiographs (x-rays), based on your individual needs.
Time is taken to help you feel informed and comfortable throughout your visit.
Is the environment suitable for anxious patients?
Yes. Care is provided in a calm and supportive environment. Desensitizers or anesthetic options are available to help ensure your comfort. Options such as TV's, weighted blankets, pillows, aromatherapy, and adjustable lighting are also available at the patient's request.
How long will my appointment take?
Appointment times are based on your individual needs. New patient appointments are typically around 2 hours, and dental hygiene appointments are often approximately 1 hour.
